Duke Ellington – Pussy Willow

Written by Holy Lindy Land. Posted in שיר השבוע

What do you do on on lazy Sunday afternoon?

Listening to a good swing record of course. "Duke Ellington & His Orchestra 1939 – 1940" QSR 2416 Almanac rec, ended up on the Pick up. Hard to stay Lazy when an amazingly and subtly energetic song like "Pussy Willow" shouts trough the speakers. Smooth and bouncy like hell.

Pussy Willow is record live in 1939. For a lot of fans, Duke's top period. playing with an amazing band, in which most of the soloists and musicians are already playing since the late twenties. Lawrence Brown (tr) joined later in 1932 and Rex Stewart (tr) in 1935. It made them an exceptional band. One of the best ever in Swing History. And luckily already credited early so a lot of recordings are made and easily available. From studio to live broadcast, recorded gigs and Cotton Club adventures. Check em out! Jungle fever!
Other personal are Wallace Jones, Rex Stewart(t); Joe Nanton, Juan Tizol(tb); Barney Bigard(cl,ts); Johnny Hodges(ss,as); Otto Hardwicke(cl,as); Harry Carney(cl,as,bar); Duke Ellington(p); Fred Guy(g); Billy Taylor(sb); Sonny Greer(d,ch)

Energetic riffing, great solo-ing and a dance rhythm to make the sweetest tripples or grooves you ever did!  We hope you enjoy this tune on a lazy Sunday afternoon and even more on the dance floor!
